This is a program I designed that began in the summer of 2025. The program runs once a day for 30 minutes during peak periods and has been used for the audition process of prospective employees.
The program takes place in Shedd's Wonder of Water habitat, which highlights the distinct beauty of fresh and salt water animals. The program builds on that theme by allowing guests to closely observe a favorite fish and note its distinct features, leading to discussions about how much can be learned by taking the time to look!
The worksheet is a key component of the program and it's simple, elegant design--inspired by the Greco-Roman style of the habitat--allows it to be easily accessible to all ages.
Exploration Station: Mermaids' Purses
This program seeks to educate guests about the wild world of shark eggs, highlighting their diverse appearance, the reasons behind them, and how Shedd is working to rebuild shark populations in the wild.
The program is build around a matching game where guests seek to match shark eggs to the places they would be found, then revealing the sharks behind the egg!
My task was creating the cards for the matching game. They feature the images of the shark on one side with the habitat on the reverse. There is a banner on the top labeling the shark and habitat, with space for Shedd branding for added polish. The simple look allows for clear communication with guests of various age and native language while maintaining brand identity. I created the cards at notecard size so that they are all able to be evenly displayed on the cart surface.
